Our President's Message

Hello Ladies!

Was the Block Auction a blast or what? I know I had a great time. A little bird told me that the guild raised a good amount money from it. Thanks go out to all of you who not only donated items, but thanks also to those members who worked so hard to make the auction run so smoothly.

July is a busy month with not only the 4th of July holiday and the guild meeting, but the Quilt Run is happening as well. If you do not know what the Quilt Run is, let me help you out. It is a four day quilt store shopping event. You can shop all four days or just one. It is a blast! For more information, call or better yet visit, our local quilt store, Loving Stitches.

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe 4th of July!

Happy Quilting!

Jennifer Moore

Community Charity Corner

It was brought to my attention this month that the QOV Project is no longer accepting quilts.  Any member out there that knows of a Santa Clarita Valley family that have a solider as a daughter or son, please let me know and we can then decide on who to donate these quilt(s) to. So far I have received 29 (12½ x 12 ½) unfinished red, white (beige) and blue blocks for this quilt.

The Painted Turtle Camp, still needs lap size quilts (35” – 40” x 40” – 45”). I currently have 13 finished quilts to donate to the camp. June 19th is opening day at the camp and closing day will be August 19th.  Hopefully we will be able to donate lots of quilts between these dates. Our Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild was mentioned in their monthly Painted Turtle Camp newsletter for Operating Gifts in Kind.

I have lots of fabrics, unfinished quilt tops and other miscellaneous items. If you or your mini group would like to finish or start a charity item, please see me at the monthly guild meeting. You can pick up an unfinished top and quilt it or start a new quilt with all the lovely new fabrics that have been donated.

Please stop by and see me at the Monthly Guild Meeting if you have any questions, concerns or want to just drop off a donated item.

Quilt Show

To be real honest, I did not do anything about the Quilt Show this last month.  I was too busy holding and taking care of my new grandson, Leyton Taylor Daniel and making sure my daughter took it easy.  Now that I am back, let's get going!

Are you with me?  I hope when this article comes out I will have exciting things to tell you about our plans.  I will be having a meeting on July 5th at 6:00 p.m. at my house (27127 Rio Bosque, Valencia.)   Bring your own beverage and I will order pizza.  Please RSVP.

Any questions?  Call me, Gerry Hogan.

Fat Quarter Exchange

Way to go, Barbara Montejo!  You won some truly beautiful Springtime fat quarters. Our theme for July is Large Scale Prints. Any print with a large scale design in any color combination is what's needed for this month's fat quarter drawing.

A fat quarter is a piece of 100% cotton fabric cut approximately 18 inches by 22 inches. For every fat quarter you bring in you'll write your name on the provided slip of paper and put it in the bag for the drawing.

After the drawing at the July meeting the August theme will be revealed. Just think how much better your fabric stash will be with more large scale prints added to it. Good luck!

Connie Viner

A big thank you to the following who brought food and drinks to the June meeting:
Ruth Grossnickle    Caryl Jo Fox

Barbara Cannon      Millie Ballace

Sue Yonker            Linda Hart

Kris Dolan              Darleen Hamburger
For July, lets have J through R bring food and S bring drinks.
Thank you all,
Connie Weber

Block of the Month

We had 114 blocks at the June Block of the month and they ended up being divided up by Ellie Smith , Lorrie Brothers and Millie Ballace. Congratulations ladies and thank you to all who participated.

Our block for August is called Children's Delight and will use a floral print and a solid ( or a fabric that reads as a solid). It only has rectangles and squares so should be very easy to make.

See you at the July meeting. Any questions give me a call.

Barbara E. Montejo

Our Quilt Challenge

Just a friendly reminder that your challenge entry is due in September. I'm looking forward to seeing your entry. Any questions give me a call.

June's Program

THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who helped with our annual auction.  It was a big success, we cleared about $1800.00

Our Program for July

July's speaker is Ann Copeland who will be appraising our old and new quilts.  Bring all of those quilts you want appraised.  Not only will she be appraising quilts, she will show us how to date fabrics.  This is going to be very interesting.

We still have openings for our quilt show.  If you never worked a quilt show it is fun!  You will get to meet people and maybe learn something about quilts or what people do when they make quilts.   Judy Smith will bring the sign-up sheet for the November show, so please sign-up.  If you have any questions, please ask.

Ellie Smith,

Program Chairperson

A Big Welcome …

To our newest business associate, Boothill Patches, A Fabric Shop.

Donna Chipperfield met the shop owner Jenny at a quilt show recently and Jenny made a nice offer to our guild.

She would like to have a committee from our guild come to her shop to select fabric for our next Opportunity Quilt.

She feels providing the fabric at no charge is a good way to show support for quilt guilds like ours and enjoys knowing her fabric will go on to such a glorious future

So, if you enjoy selecting fabric and would like to be involved in our next Opportunity Quilt, come to the business meeting and get the details.

Stop by Boothill Patches and introduce yourself to Jenny and give her a big thank you.
